Time Capsule: Nowness

To store our personal space

4 Bedrooms, 04.2023-05.2023 (1 month)

Our time capsule project celebrates the significance of the bedroom as a personal and intimate space that reflects our individuality. Inspired by Dorothy Draper, “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love.” We aim to capture and preserve our personal space and emotions in the time capsule for the 2123 audience, to allow them to step into a scene in our lives to be immersed in the experience.

A huge part of this brief is to forecast the future, to imagine what it will be like in 100 years’ time. Who is the audience and what will it be like? Our target audience is unclear and unknown. We wanted to explore how we can showcase and introduce ourselves to the yet non-existing beings in the future. Looking at a popular Netflix show, “Alice in Borderland,” allowed us to source inspiration on how the audience will view this time capsule.

In this brief, I have acquired Blender and Unity software skills, making a prototype and working closely with Deane, while also collaborating and communicating within our group of four. The success of the project is measured by the audience’s engagement and feedback in the open studio. Although we cannot engage with the yet unborn audience, understanding a third person's view in the Unity prototype helps capture an effective sense of "nowness" for showcasing to the future audience.
